Foodie Fridays: Red Iron Burgers

Cuisine: American

Location: Uxbridge High St
Website: www.redironburgers.co.uk

My bf & I decided to grab some lunch since we had some time to kill before our screening for Need 4 Speed (which was great btw!). Whilst walking around town, we came across Red Iron Burgers. To our surprise, we discovered that the place offered Man Vs Food style challenges. Although we weren’t particularly up for channeling our inner Adam Richman, the regular menu looked pretty good so we decided to give it a go..

Food:

We ordered the Red Iron and the American Chicken burger and spilt it between us. Both burgers were served in red baskets along with a mahoosive pile of fries on the side. Both burgers were huge! The beef patty was about 2 inches thick and I could barely fit it in my mouth! We requested medium rare and although it was slightly more cooked than we wanted, it wasn’t dry at all. Still succulent & juicy. Perfect choice of toppings too.. esp. the jalapeños!

The American chicken burger wasn’t bad either. They were very generous with the chicken, however there was no sign of the onion rings that were supposed to be included in the burger. Nonetheless, the chicken was nice&moist and packed in lots of flavour.

The fries were quite reminiscent of Five Guys but unfortunately they were over seasoned. We were also disappointed with the onion rings. Unlike the GBK ones, they were über oily and had too much batter and very little onion. On the other hand, the oreo milkshake was outstanding! We loved how it had chunks of oreo cream in it .. mmmmm :)

Value:

It is great value for money since both dishes were under £10 and the portions were very much American-sized. The ‘man sized’ milkshake was pretty pricey (£5.95) but worth it since it was our favourite part of the meal.

Service:

The service is a huge let down to the restaurant. The woman who served us was really rude and cold. Not once did she come to check up on how our meal was going & not once did she give out a smile (to us anyways). Oh, and the fact that the the cook didn’t have a hair net/hat on worried me a little... a lot.

Atmosphere:

It was dark and dingy. The table layout was a bit awkward. It was obvious that the restaurant still needed work. I wasn’t too fussed about it to be honest - but then again, I'd probably think otherwise if we visited during a busier period.

Overall rating: 6/10 - good food, great portions, terrible service.

Would you visit again: If they employ friendlier staff then yes.
